According to The S*n, Bayern Munich are ready to offer as much as £75m – the same fee Liverpool paid to sign Virgil van Dijk – in a bid to sign Roberto Firmino this summer.
What’s the word, then?
Well, the report says that the Bundesliga leaders want to refresh their squad at the end of the current campaign, and that the Brazil international is one of their top targets.
They see him as a potential replacement for Robert Lewandowski and someone who can lead the line for the Bavarian club, who are said to be ready to go as high as £75m with their offers in order to test the Merseyside outfit’s resolve.
The report also says that Bayern believe that Liverpool could cash in on one of their front three as they target a summer move for RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner – Firmino would indeed be in the most trouble if the Germany international was to play through the middle rather than out wide where Mo Salah and Sadio Mane feature.
Will this happen?
It really does depend on what manager Jurgen Klopp plans to do with his squad this summer.
He will surely want some further competition for his brilliant attacking trio, but will also be well aware that any player he could bring in will want to be starting more often than not – especially someone like Werner who is a Germany international.

That leaves the former Borussia Dortmund boss in something of a catch 22 situation, and it may get to a stage where he has to consider sacrificing someone like Firmino if the money is right – £75m would certainly be an interesting proposal given he will turn 29 years of age later this year.
On the other hand, Klopp only called the Brazilian “very special” earlier this month following his display against Southampton, and it is well-deserved praise with his all-round unselfish game often allowing Salah and Mane to thrive.
Call yourself a Liverpool expert? How much did each of these big-money January signings cost?
Any new player would need to try and replace that, but perhaps the one thing you can criticise the 28-year-old for is his lack of goals – he has 10 in 36 appearances in all competitions this term, and is yet to score at Anfield in the Premier League in 2019/20 despite the Reds’ dominance.
If Klopp feels Werner could come in and do a similar job – and net more goals in the process given he has 25 in 30 during the current campaign – then he could be left with a decision to make.
In other Liverpool news, some Reds fans have reacted to a wonder-goal from one former star, with one supporter urging the club to “bring him home”…
