Everton manager David Moyes and Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher have claimed the Premier League manager and player of the month awards for September.
The Goodison Park club have excelled at the start of the season and are currently in fourth place in the standings, with the Scottish coach taking much of the credit.
“With the quality of the Premier League it is really hard to qualify for the Champions League but I wouldn’t say we can’t do it. It is possible and you have to aim for that,” Sky Sports quote Moyes as saying.
“If we fall short and end up in the Europa League then so be it, but in recent years we have been pretty close, finishing sixth, seventh or eighth, so we want to do that at the very least.”
Meanwhile, Fletcher has been a revelation for the Black Cats since moving to the Stadium of Light from relegated side Wolves in the summer, scoring five goals in four games for his new club; the award is a source of pride for the marksman.
“I’m obviously pleased with the award but results are more important,” Fletcher stated.
“To stay unbeaten in September was a real positive for the lads and I’m pleased I grabbed a few goals as well.”
