Ewan Henderson’s prospects at Celtic appear to be fairly bleak, The Athletic’s Kieran Devlin says.
The lowdown
21-year-old Henderson has yet to feature for the Hoops this season, with Ange Postecoglou even overlooking him for the Scottish League Cup clash with Raith Rovers on Thursday.
Henderson, a product of the club’s youth system, has had stints on loan at Ross County and Dunfermline Athletic (via Transfermarkt).
He’s made 10 Celtic appearances in total, the last of which came way back in January when he came on for the final 26 minutes of a goalless draw with Livingston.
Back in 2019, Brendan Rodgers had touted him as a ‘big talent’ after he notched a ‘beautiful’ assist on just his second first-team appearance.

In a discussion for The Athletic, a fan made the case that Henderson ‘could be a useful player’ for Celtic ‘going forward’.
But Devlin replied that he wasn’t sure ‘people internally’ rate him highly enough. He’s apparently failed to convince them ‘he’d good enough to be a squad player’.
The verdict
It’s one thing struggling to secure a starting role, but when you aren’t even viewed as a viable squad option, then it looks very bleak indeed.
Henderson’s contract is up in the summer and it very much looks like he’ll be headed out the door barring a pretty dramatic turnaround.
He’s sadly failed to live up to Rodgers’ initial billing.
