According to TEAMtalk, West Bromwich Albion are one of several Championship clubs chasing Sheffield Wednesday left-back Morgan Fox.
What’s the word?
It is believed that the 26-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer, is wanted by the Baggies but they face stiff competition from Preston North End, Nottingham Forest, Derby County, Blackburn Rovers and Huddersfield Town.

Fox has seen the turnaround of his fortunes under Garry Monk, playing in 11 straight matches as the Owls try to mount a playoff challenge this term.
However, the club faces uncertainty off the pitch after the EFL charged them for financial misconduct, which could potentially result in a 21-point deduction – you’d imagine that would swing a player’s mind only one way.
Must avoid
The left-back position at the Hawthorns could be a particular area of need as January approaches.
Kieran Gibbs faces another spell on the sidelines, leading to calls from Football FanCast to cut ties with him in the future while Conor Townsend is appearing a little out of his depth at this level, at least according to fans at the club.
Nathan Ferguson, who can play the role, could also be sold in the winter window as question marks continue to appear over his future – the club appear ready to cash in on him.
While Fox would be a worthy contender to earn a contract extension at Hillsborough – Monk lacks considerable options in the role and it is only under his stewardship that such a drastic change in performance has occurred – he just wouldn’t be the right man for West Brom.
Would he be any better than Townsend? Probably not.
They are the same age and offer a very similar style of football. Both players produce high numbers for tackles and clearances per game, of which Fox tops with 2.1 and 2.6 respectively, but they both lack on the attacking side of the game, failing to provide more than 0.9 crosses per game.

Bilic’s system requires his full-backs to be rather attacking. Thus an option such as Sam McCallum could bear fruit with the Coventry man playing in a more advanced wing-back role for the League One outfit. The Baggies were linked to him back in September.
